Privacy Policy

Leaving Cert Business (businessleavingcert.com) is an independent revision site for Leaving Certificate Business, run by Ian O'Herlihy, a teacher at St. Columba's College, Dublin. It is not affiliated with the State Examinations Commission (SEC) or the NCCA.

• Account details. When you sign up we store your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and Google account ID. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and are never visible to us.
• Learning activity. Quiz and practice attempts, and which resources you have viewed, so the site can show your progress.
• Tutor questions. Questions you ask the personal tutor are sent to an AI provider to generate an answer, and may be stored so we can improve the service.
• Contact messages. Your name, email address and message when you use the contact form.
• Payment records. If you buy Premium, we record the purchase and access period. Card details are entered directly into Stripe and never touch our servers.
• Class codes. If you redeem a class code, we record which code you used and when your free access ends.
• Usage analytics. Pages visited and basic device information, collected through Google Analytics 4.

• To run your account and give you the access you paid for or were granted.
• To show your revision progress and remember where you left off.
• To answer your tutor questions and contact messages.
• To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
• To meet legal and accounting obligations for payments.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

We process account, learning and payment data to perform our contract with you; analytics and service improvement under our legitimate interest in running a useful educational site; and payment records where required by law. Where we rely on consent (for example, optional analytics), you can withdraw it at any time.

• Stripe — payment processing. Stripe receives your card details directly; we receive only confirmation and receipt information.
• Google — sign-in (if you choose Google) and Google Analytics 4 usage statistics.
• AI provider — your tutor questions are processed by an AI service to generate answers. Do not include personal details in tutor questions.
• Hosting and database provider — the site and its database are hosted on a managed cloud platform.
• Spotify — podcast players on some chapter pages are embedded from Spotify, which may set its own cookies when you play an episode.

Some of these providers process data outside the EU/EEA. Where they do, transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

Account and learning data is kept while your account is active. Payment records are kept for seven years to meet accounting obligations. Contact messages are kept for 12 months. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

Under GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, object to or restrict processing, and request a copy of your data in a portable format. Contact us through the contact form and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).

The site is designed for Leaving Cert students, many of whom are under 18. We collect the minimum needed to run the service and never show advertising. If you are under 18, please use the site with a parent or guardian's knowledge. Teachers who share class codes are responsible for having permission to do so.

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, let signed-in users know on the site.
